DuBois man charged for threatening to 'kill someone' during motel standoff

Authorities in Clearfield County say a DuBois man is facing several charges after making multiple threats to kill someone during a standoff at a local motel last month, according to a criminal complaint.

Police say Joseph Fleming, 30, is facing charges of making terroristic threats, criminal mischief and hazardous disorderly conduct, according to court documents.

The complaint states that on April 30, around 6 p.m., officers were dispatched to the DuBois Manor Motel for reports of a male, identified as Fleming, making threats to kill someone.

Officers on scene say Fleming continued to shout, "I'm going to kill someone," during the duration of the standoff.

Police add that Fleming told officers that he was in possession of multiple firearms and that he then told them to shoot him.

This is your time to shine. This is what you get paid to do. Open that door and shoot me, Fleming said.

Authorities also add that the motel was evacuated due to the altercation but that no weapons were found in the room once Fleming was restrained.

Damages inside the room were estimated at $5,000, the complaint adds.

Police also say that one witness told them that Fleming threatened to "blow his head off" and that witnesses also heard Fleming say that he was going to "shoot all the cops."

Fleming is currently being housed at the Clearfield County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail, court dockets show, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 22.
